Dear colleague,
Thank you for your referral.
On exam, our patient was found to have stable proliferative diabetic retinopathy that has been previously been treated and currently does not require any intervention. I reiterated the importance of tight glucose control in preventing the worsening of their diabetic eye disease.
In addition, our patient was found to have visually significant cataracts that are affecting their activities of daily living. After discussing with them the risks, benefits, and alternatives to cataract surgery, we decided together to proceed with surgery to remove the cataract.
Thank you again for allowing me to participate in their care.
Sincerely,
Gintien Huang, M.D.
