Dear colleague,
Thank you for your referral.
On exam, our patient had no signs of diabetic eye disease. I explained to our patient the need for tight glucose control in helping prevent future diabetic ocular complications. I will continue to follow them for their yearly diabetic exam.
In addition, our patient was found to have wet age-related macular degeneration. Given the morbidity of wet macular degeneration, I plan to proceed with intravitreal anti-VEGF injections for which I routinely start with Avastin (Bevacizumab). I follow a treat-and-extend protocol in where injections are performed every 4 weeks until the eye fully responds, then extend the interval of injections until the return of the wet macular degeneration.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding their injections.
Thank you again for allowing me to participate in their care.
Sincerely,
Gintien Huang, M.D.
