Dear colleague,
Thank you for your referral.
On exam, our patient was found to have non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy without macular edema. Currently, their diabetic retinopathy requires no intervention at this time but I will watch them closely for progression. I explained to our patient the need for tighter glucose control in helping prevent future diabetic ocular complications.
In addition, our patient was also found to have visually significant cataracts that are affecting their activities of daily living. After discussing with them the risks, benefits, and alternatives to cataract surgery, we decided together to proceed with surgery to remove the cataract.
Thank you again for allowing me to participate in their care.
Sincerely,
Gintien Huang, M.D.
